Did you know?

Some brands couldn't wait. iSQUARE was already advertising a joint Mid-Autumn and National Day dinner on 19 September, nearly two weeks before Golden Week even starts. Hong Kong barely takes a breath between festivals.

Once a year

National Day, 1 October

The harbour fireworks were on 1 October, over 31,000 shells this year, free to watch from the Tsim Sha Tsui or Wan Chai waterfront. Trams and ferries ran free that day too, handy for island-hopping between viewing spots. The more comfortable options were Harbour City's charity tickets from HK$30, Klook's yacht and rooftop dinner packages built around the show, and iSQUARE's rooftop restaurant, which has harbour views of its own.

The other way to spend the day was at the movies: every cinema in Hong Kong was half price, any format, VIP halls included, and Emperor Cinemas confirmed on Instagram that tickets went on sale from noon on 28 September. (Source: SCMP) Still after a fireworks fix? Klook's Macau fireworks display packages are on offer until 4 October.

The bigger picture

Golden Week is one slice of a bigger autumn wave

Golden Week isn't the only thing behind this month's sales. Of the roughly 150 autumn promotions we found, nearly 50 actually mention Golden Week or National Day. The rest is ordinary autumn shopping: new-season fashion, seasonal beauty, and cooler-weather sales that would be running either way.

Malls

What the malls are offering

Seven malls have something built specifically for this week: Harbour City, apm, East Point City, iSQUARE, Lee Tung Avenue, Kai Tak Mall and Harbour North. Harbour City has the fullest offer, pairing fireworks tickets with a rooftop and yacht dining deal. East Point City's bonus was the most precisely timed of the bunch: it only unlocked on 1 October itself. The simplest deals are the spend-and-get-back ones, like Lee Tung Avenue's HK$100 in vouchers for every HK$1,000 spent in a day.

Quick picks

One for every plan

  1. The fireworks

On 1 October the free view was from the Tsim Sha Tsui or Wan Chai waterfront, with Harbour City's charity tickets (from HK$30) and Klook's yacht and rooftop dinners as the comfortable options. Still want a show? Klook's Macau fireworks packages run to 4 October.

  2. Skipping the crowds

iSQUARE's rooftop restaurant has harbour views of its own, no standing on a promenade required.

  3. A day trip out

hopegoohk's High-Speed Rail hotel packages, or the Fubon Visa card's Thursday discount on flights, trains and hotels.

  4. Winding down

Every cinema in Hong Kong was half price on 1 October, any format, VIP halls included.

  5. At-home savings

    Estée Lauder's gift with purchase, Samsung's Galaxy S26 trade-in credit, or Laneige's weekly buy-one-get-one.

  6. A National Day lunch

Maxim's MX and Food² have their boneless Hainanese chicken set at 23% off from 1 to 4 October, and Café de Coral has a braised vegetarian-fin set for two at HK$101 (was HK$145) until 5 October. On 1 October itself, seniors got 25% off dinner at Maxim's MX and Pacific Coffee took 23% off selected food and drinks.

  7. A sit-down dinner

Spaghetti House takes 23% off selected mains, all day, at every branch until 8 October.

  8. Spend and get it back

Lee Tung Avenue gives HK$100 in vouchers for every HK$1,000 spent in a day, and Kai Tak Mall hands members HK$70 back on a HK$770 spend. Both run to 7 October.

Two practical notes

Before you shop

A few of these end soon: Escapade on 2 October, LOG-ON on 3 October, Bath & Body Works and Klook's Macau fireworks packages on 4 October, and Café de Coral on 5 October. Worth confirming with the venue before you head out, in case anything has sold out or changed. And a small stacking tip: pairing a card from the list above with a deal from any other section here (a mall, a retailer, a travel platform) is usually worth the extra minute.

Everything above reflects promotions as they were advertised, alongside SCMP's own reporting on the official side of the holiday. It's a smaller, faster-moving list than our Mid-Autumn guide, so treat it as a snapshot of the week rather than the full picture.

Next up: 11.11
